The Community Talks!

Our popular lecture series is back with a new name, The Community Talks! Join us as we continue our tradition of offering interesting topics from local speakers free of charge.

Alfie Kohn, an American author and lecturer in the areas of education said, “Rather than attempting to define what it means to be well-educated, should we instead be asking about the purposes of education?” Former educator, Darrell Buffaloe, will discuss the development of higher education in general and Idaho in historical fact. In addition, this presentation will help you learn more about learning vs. education and allow you do develop your own philosophy of learning.

Darrell Buffaloe is retired in Twin Falls and has served as a Civil Affairs Military advisor in Vietnam (1968 – 1969) where he assisted in developing an education system for the Montagnard peoples of the Central Highlands of Vietnam.  He retired from the Army and served as an Associate Vice President of Idaho State University and instructed classes in the College of Education part time.  After retiring from ISU, he and his wife moved to Twin Falls where he instructed Sociology classes part time for several years for CSI.  When he discovered that “God alone knows the future and only historians can alter the past” he developed a love for history and served as the President of the Twin Falls Historical Preservation Commission and teaches classes on various historical topics for the Twin Falls Historical Museum.
