Student Orientation, Advising and Registration

S.O.A.R. is a 3-hour program that is recommended for all students who are new to college and are seeking a degree or certificate, or taking general studies classes. All recent high school graduates are encouraged to attend S.O.A.R., even if you took college classes while in high school. S.O.A.R. is designed to introduce students to the essential tools for success at the College of Southern Idaho, you will also meet with an advisor and register for classes during S.O.A.R.

What happens at S.O.A.R.?

    During S.O.A.R. you will:

  • Meet other new students.
  • Speak with and ask questions of college representatives.
  • Discover what''s available through CSI''s online tools.
  • Learn your student responsibilities.
  • Meet with an academic advisor.
  • Select and register for your first semester classes*.

*Be sure you have completed all pre-registration requirements (see below), and are attending a SOAR date after registration has opened.

Your responsibilities prior to S.O.A.R.

  • Submit an application for admission.
  • Take the COMPASS placement tests at the Testing Center.*
  • Submit official high school transcript listing final grades and graduation date.
  • If applicable, submit official college transcripts with final grades posted.

*Qualifying SAT or ACT scores exempt you from needing to take the COMPASS test. However, if you do not have qualifying SAT or ACT scores, you will need to COMPASS.

Qualifying ACT Scores:

Math- 23 or greater

English- 18 or greater

Qualifying SAT Scores:

Math- 460 or greater

Critical Reading- 450 or greater
